Is Twitter Tweeting its Swan Song? Will Twitter Troubles Affect Online Marketing Strategies for Attorneys?
As an tech savvy attorney you have sung the praises of your online marketing efforts. You have tackled social media and your online presence is producing substantial new client ratio results.
Without perhaps publicly admitting it, your favorite technological tool is Twitter. Both personally and professionally you appreciate being able to connect with clients and friends instantaneously. Twitter provides you with the capability of broadcasting pertinent business news all in 140 character or less. Brilliant, but is Twitter flying toward placement on technology's list of endangered species?
Unless you have excused yourself from the internet and refrained from checking your Twitter account, Twitter's stock recently found itself singing an off key? Falling by as much as 18 percent recently, Twitter boasted a meager 3.8 percent in user numbers since the fourth quarter of 2013 and less than enthusiastic engagement by existing users for the same quarter.
But there is hope. The Financial Express recently reported that despite the numbers this market wake-up call only provides Twitter with the opportunity to grow. Currently Twitter engages 241 million monthly users while Facebook entertains 1.4 billion users. Advertising opportunities come in at a difference of 14 percent with Facebook pulling in an estimated 17 percent of the possible revenue share and Twitter lagging behind at three percent. This is where Twitter may have the upper hand for long-term growth. Only 40 percent of the global population has access to the internet putting Facebook slightly behind the eight ball and paving the way for Twitter expansion.
Twitter's CEO, Dan Costolo imagines adding enhanced features as Facebook has done in the past to hold user interest. As quoted in an recent article published by CIO, Costolo holds true to as how his road map of late will pave the way for achieving better growth over the course of the year but is quick to point out that there is not one single product feature that will set the course but rather an accumulation of several tweaks based on various different ideas. For the moment Costolo remains optimistic.
So will Twitter soar into the future or fall by the technological wayside? Twitter has definitely made its mark on the way we communicate. For those in the legal industry, Twitter remains a viable vehicle to broadcast updates to clients and to answer questions from prospective clients waiting in the wings. No other social marketing media tool equals Twitter’s capacity for real-time, person-to-person engagement and that is why it should maintain its position in your social media marketing strategy.
